Steve Miller Band - My Dark Hour

Steve Miller Band’s Greatest Hits 1974-78, is one of the most ubiquitous albums of all time. which got me thinking; How bad is Steve Miller’s other work that it gets absolutely no love? I mean, sure we all know and hate Abracadabra, but that is the wrong direction on his timeline. Through the power of internet piracy I was able to procure SMB’s Anthology which collects his best pre-‘74 work. It’s not bad really, not as catchy or populist as the “classic” stuff, but certainly worth hearing. And interestingly enough My Dark Hour is actually a secret collaboration with none other than Sir Paul McCartney circa 1969. Although credited on the album as “Paul Ramon”, Sir Paul helped arrange this fucker and is featured on drums, bass and vocals (you can hear him mixed in the background there). Lastly, and most of you will already realize this, but the main riff was recycled for Fly Like an Eagle; it’s not plagiarism if you do it to yourself, is it?
